Hints for JIMS.GAD
General hint - Precise timing required. Use F5 to set a speed where movement is
continuous, but each keystroke counts. I use wait = 60 on a Pentium 233 and can
win about half the time. My 7 year old son uses wait = 100 on a K6-II 200 and
can get to level 5.

Level 1 = 'The Loopy Ladder'
Key point - The only safe place is the lower platform to the left of the ladder.
Gadget must blow up bricks to get there, wait for the bad guys to collect on the
ladder, blow up the bricks, pause at the end until they chase, then jump off and
run under them to ascend the ladder.

L = zigzag ladder on the right
L1 = bottom level diving platform to left of ladder
L2 = middle level diving platform to left of ladder
L3 = top level diving platform P above ladder
A = pachinko array A with ladder bridge
A1 = first pachinko path,
A2 = second pachinko path,

Key points - gadget must tunnel her way through 6 bricks to get out of the apple
pit. Learn the rhythm - bomb 1x right 1x wait, left 3x, repeat. The last bit of
mining will open bricks above. Time it so the bad guys aren't there to fall
through.

Key points - Get the 3 bad guys trapped in the 3 pits on the
middle tier then drop bombs on them like laying eggs. Don't
bomb heavily above or the pits will fill with apples.

Level 5 = 'The Heating Plant'
Key points - Get the bad guys trapped on the right and clear the left,
then get them trapped on the left and clear the right. Don't jump
down the chimney, the gold will come up to you. The ladders in the
center will be tricky if a bad guy is free.
Detailed moves not needed, this is an easy level.
Level 6 = 'Thin Ice'
Key points - Start fast!: bomb 2x right 2x or die. Keep
'breaking the ice' to trap the bad guys with bad Gadget,
clear the apples (a hidden one hangs under the left block
on the top row, then hang from the lone ladder and bomb
to clear out the bad guys. Jump in and eat apples to
show the exit ladder. Climb up, wait for the bad guys
and bad Gadget to clear, then jump left and down to keep
the bad guys trapped. Break out, run up and right to the
ladder, bomb at the top to escape to the next level.
Detailed moves
1 quickly bomb 2x and move right to the ladder
2 2 bad guys will die, 4 will fall into trap
3 slowly move down 1x bomb 1x and up 1x
4 free bad guys will fall in trap
5 repeat until all bad guys trapped

standing on, and don't spend much time on the bottom.

Level 8 = 'The Apartments'
Key points - This takes patience! Hidden apples at top will float
above the blocks if Gadget doesn't get them in time. Keep the bad
guys away by stopping next to blocks.

Whew! This finally completes my documentation of my
Gadget and Gold rooms. Sorry it took so long, but I
was stuck on level 9, practicing in edit mode to
recall all the tricks needed to make it through. The
original program creates a really interesting environ
for designing levels. I would like to know if there
are any hidden features there.

Hints for JIMS.GAD level 9
Designer's comment - This level is almost impossible! I
made it past here only 3 times starting from level 1.
Level 9 = 'Double Diamond'
Key points - Bombs will only rest on left edge of bricks
when bricks below are fully formed. Use this to climb up.
You can't climb up around the left corner of the diamond,
the only way out is to get all the apples so the escape
ladder will appear sloping up the upper right side of the
diamond. Even this will be difficult to climb. There is
on apple in each column of the display.

(Start following green line)
1 down 2x and wait
2 right across bad guy's head
3 go all the way right
4 bomb 2x and left 1x
5 wait for bomb then bricks
6 left 3x for apple
7 right 1x, watch middle bad guy
8 when he hits right wall bomb 2x
9 wait for bad guy to move over and back
10 move left to ladder before bombs go off
(if this is done right, the bad guy will be trapped in
the hole in the diagonal row of blocks. If he is
killed, then put a bomb atop the ladder and move down
just in case he comes back down the ladder.)
